‘I have been with the mission in Harare, Zimbabwe for 26 years. Part of my portfolio includes education and the person of trust. The reason I attended the Unconscious Bias workshop (for teams) is because of my quest to contribute to a safe and inclusive working environment and to be aware of biases and microaggressions in any environment, including workplace. We attended the Unconscious Bias workshop as a team and it really helped me to understand each other better, because we are all different. And we all have our own values, norms and cultures.
The Unconscious Bias workshop (for teams) taught me on how biases occur in everyday situations; how it influences our decisions and affect an inclusive environment. It made me very aware of the unconscious biases I didn’t think I had and how it could affect the colleagues I work with. It also encouraged me to speak out and empowered me also to reflect upon on my own behavior and that of my colleagues. As a result of the training, I have become better at embracing diversity and have been encouraged to have ‘difficult’ conversations and give honest and constructive feedback. I am a better team member because of what I have learned from the workshop.’
